OCT / IVUS guided angioplasty

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and IVUS (Intravascular Ultrasound) are imaging techniques used during angioplasty procedures to visualize blood vessel interiors.

  • OCT uses near-infrared light to create high-resolution images, showing plaque composition and thickness.
  • IVUS uses ultrasound to provide real-time images, revealing vessel dimensions and plaque burden.

OCT offers better resolution but is sensitive to artifacts, while IVUS penetrates deeper but has lower resolution. Their choice depends on clinical needs and operator preference, sometimes used together for comprehensive imaging.
